The Kitehouse Cayman Islands has something
for everybody. Whether you are a beginning kiteboarder, an
experienced rider, or if you are not a kiteboarder, the Kitehouse
has the activity for you. With ideal kiteboarding conditions,
world-class scuba diving, pristine paddling and kayaking,
clear warm water, relaxing beaches all on a tranquil Caribbean
island, what else could you ask for?
The
Kitehouse’s partnership with Ocean Frontiers Dive Center
and Compass Point Resort makes us Cayman Island’s premier
watersports destination. We offer instruction, tours and excursions
for kiteboarding, scuba diving, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking
and snorkeling. With 1 and 2 bedroom luxury accommodation,
a dive and kite ship onsite we are truly your one stop watersports
destination center.
We are based on the tranquil,
but windy East End of the island of Grand Cayman. Only 40
minutes from the international airport, but far away from
any hassles. No traffic, only scenic drives. We offer activities
to cover the entire island, with a location in Kaibo Yacht
Club and pickups locations in Georgetown and Seven Mile Beach.
Our fleet of 7 boats does
daily trips and tours out to the reef and beyond. Dive one
of Cayman’s famous wall dives in the morning, then kite
an offshore reef or sandbar in the afternoon. Mangrove paddleboard
excursions, Kayak the barrier reef, snorkel Stingray City,
go wakeboarding or on a night Bioluminescence tour, these
are just some of the many activities that we offer.
Warm winds that blow most
the year, shallow aquamarine lagoons and waves breaking on
the barrier reef make the Cayman Islands an ideal kiting location
for all levels of kiteboarders. There is wind most the year,
with the most consistent wind coming during the winter. Most
days are at least 15 knots, but 20-30 knots is common. Summer
sees less consistent winds between 10-20 knots, unless a storm
comes.
Beginners and freestylers
love the calm flat water inside the reef. Sandy sandbars and
long downwinders in protected water make learning how to ride
that much easier. Wave riders enjoy easy access to waves breaking
on the barrier reef that circles the island. No matter what
the wind direction there is always somewhere to ride flat
water or waves.
The Kitehouse offers a full
range of services for kiteboarders, including instruction,
water taxi, kite surfaris, gear rental and sales. Our lessons
are boat based, meaning we take a boat to a shallow open sandbar,
away from obstacle and people. And once riding your instructor
is always nearby and ready to assist you with the boat. Each
lesson is customized to each student’s level. The focus
is on making each student a safe and independent kiteboarder.
Private and group lessons are available.
For the more experienced rider
we offer advanced lessons, kite surfaris, gear rental, sales
and storage. Come ride with us, you can improve your tricks
or just have a local guide show you some of the best spots.
Leave your gear at home and use ours. We have the newest Cabrinha
gear on the market.
Lessons are given 3 times
a day, everyday, at 9am, 12pm and 3pm. They are available
in East End, Kaibo Yacht Club and Barker’s National
Park.
While there is a lot of wind
in the Cayman Islands, there are also plenty of wind-protected
areas that are perfect for kayaking or paddleboarding. There
are a variety of place to paddle, from the calm waters of
the North Sound, to the extensive mangrove forest, to the
miles of barrier reef around the island. The Kitehouse helps
you explore these areas with kayaks and paddleboards, by doing
rentals, tours and excursions.
Paddleboarding is a recently
rediscovered sport that is a combination of kayaking and surfing.
By using an oversized surfboard and a canoe-like paddle you
can cruise flat water or catch breaking waves. Much like a
kayak, we use paddleboards and kayaks together to explore
different locations.
We offer hourly, daily or
weekly rentals of our paddling gear. Also there are guided
trips and excursions daily to the best paddling locations.
Tours include; Mangrove Forest, Starfish Point, Wreck and
Reef, Duck Pond and nighttime Bioluminescence. For the more
experienced paddleboarders, we also do paddleboarding trips
to the waves.
The Cayman Islands have long
been regarded as a world-class diving destination. Crystal
clear water and stunning wall dives puts Grand Cayman on divers’
“must-see” list. Just a few miles offshore is
one of the world’s deepest points in the ocean, at just
over 6000m (18,000ft) deep.
Ocean Frontiers has over
the last 14 years proven to be a world-class dive resort.
Top of the line boats, training facilities and highly qualified
instructors have earned Ocean Frontiers the coveted PADI 5-star
resort rating. 60 dive spots within 20 minutes and award winning
customer service keeps people coming back time and time again
to dive with us.
See Ocean Frontiers at www.oceanfrontiers.com
for more information on diving.
Accommodations couldn’t
be easier, as there are 1 and 2 bedroom oceanfront luxury
condominiums located onsite at Compass Point Resort in East
End. All the rooms have balconies that overlook the East End
sound and deep blue waters of the Caribbean. Dive and kite
boats leave daily from the dock at the resort where you can
literally roll out of bed and onto a boat. Perfect for families,
with a pool and beach that are kid friendly. See Compass
Point.
For a more tribal experience
we offer rooms and beds at Richie’s Place, just ½
mile from the Kitehouse, located right on the beach with great
vibes.

The Cayman Islands is a group
3 islands in the NW Caribbean, about 450 miles south of Miami
near Cuba and Jamaica. Grand Cayman is the largest of the
3 and is home to most of the resorts and businesses. A former
British colony, the Cayman Islands is now a British Overseas
Territory, which is know for its offshore financial institutions
and world-class scuba diving.
With its strong economy,
the Cayman Islands enjoy the highest standard of living in
the Caribbean. This is noticeable with the relative lack of
crime, good public facilities and a relaxed island vibe. There
is no hassle or pressure.
The largest island, Grand
Cayman, is by no means large. Only 25 miles long and 8 miles
wide, it is easy to see the whole island in a day. But there
is variety in the different areas.
Seven
mile beach is know for its long beach, nice resorts and shopping,
while the East End and North Side are quieter with sweeping
view and un-crowded beaches. The interior is dominated by
a large shallow sound protected by reef and mangrove forest
Getting here is easy with
direct flights from Miami, Tampa, Houston, NYC, Boston, Charlotte,
Atlanta, Chicago, London and Jamaica. All international flights
go into Georgetown. Customs and Immigration are straight-forward
and easy, no hassles.
Most people do rent a car,
as prices are reasonable and the roads are easy. There are
taxis and buses that are cheap and easy, though can be a bit
time consuming to go longer distances.
The money is called the Cayman
Island Dollar (CI$), which holds a constant rate of CI$1.00-
US$1.25, though US dollars are accepted everywhere. Change
is usually given in CI. Credit cards are accepted most everywhere.
